This week I am really excited to introduce to you Natasha - Mama to one little babe Freddie, who makes amazing weavings and dream catchers. I ordered the neutral and grey one which has taken pride of place in my studio, I love it! These gorgeous creations are also very reasonably priced.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get most of my inspiration from current colour trends. I love going shopping and looking at the new seasons colours, I then use these colour combinations in my work. I also get a lot of my inspiration from the flower shop I work in. I use the colours from wedding decor and trends.
What do you create?
I create weavings and dreamcatchers, using acrylic yarn, wool, lace and vintage doilies.
How do you juggle being a Mum and a maker?
I work very hard to juggle my small business and being a new mummy. My baby boy is only two months old and I've only recently started taking orders again. I now can predict (most of the time) when he's going to nap/play/feed, so I can have all my materials ready to start as soon as he goes down for his nap. It does mean that my house is always a mess and the dishes rarely get done though! I also make daily trips to the postoffice, which is in walking distance from my house, so we go for daily walks either with the pram or sling!
Why do you do this?
I do this because I love making things and always have done. In the past my makes would build up around the house, but now they get to go to new homes and have other people admiring them!
Best piece of advice for other Mamas.
My best piece of advice is to enjoy what you do! Most people who buy handmade items understand the time and effort that goes into each piece, therefore you shouldn't worry about rushing to get the item finished and out of the door, enjoy making it and give a longer then needed lead time just incase anything pops up along the way!
